OTFC Is vs Old Cholmeleians (A)

24th November 2018

Old Cholmeleians 2 - 1 OTFC Is

After a difficult result in the league the week before, the OTFC 1s returned to cup action with the small matter of a trip to North London to face Old Cholmeleians. After some opted for the Northern line, others went by car, and Dave, Colin and Luke even had time to indulged in some retail therapy at Westfield en route. But eventually, the good guys were pumped and ready for kick-off.

Tiffs’ achilles heel in recent weeks had been defending from set pieces, and unfortunately it cost them again as an Old Cholmeleians head rose highest to give the home-side an early lead. From the following kick-off though, the T’s started to find their feet in the game, with Dave, Alan and Jordan missing chances from close range.

Unfortunately Cholmeleians had clearly been working on their corner routines, and it was another deep in-swinging one that undid the purple defence again to make it 2-0.

The half-time team talk was positive despite the scoreline, and the T’s raised their game and started the second half the stronger side. With Alan and Dave holding the ball up excellently upfront, a goal was coming, and after lovely build up play from deep inside their own half, the visitors made it 2-1 as Alan confidently finished from just inside the box. How confidently you ask? Well let’s just say he was celebrating before the ball had even reached the goal.

As well as going forward, the T’s had also improved defensively since the break, expertly keeping the Cholmeleians number nine offside on multiple occasions, as well as winning almost everything from corners. Unfortunately though it wasn’t meant to be for the good guys, despite Fuse’ bullet header just missing the target and, well the less said about Dave’s free kick the better.

Spirits were high as the fines were handed out post game, as some pondered their route home, while others returned their focus to the Black Friday deals they had browsed at Westfield earlier that day.
