Old Tiffinians Vets 0-2 Old Latymerians Vets

Thwarted by the weather from turning out at home after our epic win against Temple Bar, we took the field in a late kick off manufactured by a well known media company who wanted exclusive TV rights to our next game. The game took place on the 3G pitch at Walton.

The late kick off ruled out our lithe, but grotesquely overweight, goalie Paul Cottee and we did not have anyone on the bench to stand. However, we recently strengthened the squad and 16 players were ready to do battle. We began brightly and had the better of the opening exchanges. We welcomed Ivan to bolster our defence and he formed a solid middle back two with Pete Markham. We created a couple of chances but could not convert them into goals, Oscar, another new signing, was looking threatening but only to the squirrels that occupied the trees behind the opposition goal.

Then, we had a calamity allowing their centre forward, himself a miracle of science, to swing a long, muscle-free limb at the ball as it ran free from a throw deep into our box. The ball looped ridiculously over our strapping goalkeeper, Ted, and into the back of the net. Then a lack of concentration allowed the Old Latymer midfield player to strike a second when unopposed on the edge of the box. 0-2 at half time.

We were not down-hearted and worked hard throughout the second half, creating a number of very good opportunities but squandered each in turn. Our midfield players were tenacious and Ian, Craig, Simon and Shaun gave the opposition midfield little room to manoeuvre. Although we lost it is looking more promising each week. Morale is high judging by the attendance in the pub afterwards.
